Sleep Schedule!

Hey they folks! how goes it tonight? I have to say that things are getting better by the day for me. Although the last couple of days put me to the test. Yes, pun intended. Thus far I have two finals taken care and three to to go. The last one that i knocked down took its toll on me. Somehow I managed to pull a 41 hour day. Yeah, I spent the whole night writing a paper for my greek history class, then went to work, came home, showered, went to school, came home and finshed the paper i started the previous night, and submitted it. After the submission I really can't remember what happened, but my wife woke me after i passed out at my computer desk, which was around 9 oclock. So after that I went to bed and somehow managed to sleep through my alarm. It really is pretty easy to do when your shift starts at 4 in the morning, but to be honest those 5 and half hours of sleep was pure extacy! Anyway, i believe that I will have the rest of my finals taken care no later than wednesday! I think the thing that I am looking forward to is...... a regular sleep schedule. I still have to be to work at 4 but at least I won't have homework keeping me up all hours of night. Needless to say I am ready for a break, it's kind of sad when you consider working 8 hours a day a vactation, but I am really looking for to working and coming home to relax and catch up on some personal reading. Well folks, I'm ready for bed. So good luck during finals week! and enjoy your well deserved upcoming break!

The ups and downs in fantasy!

Ok, so I have had some great success in my fantasy football leagues this year! In fact, and I don't mean to brag, but I am sitting in first place in all three of my leagues, but I face other challenges as the league commissioner. For example, some of the owners have decided to take advantage of teams that are no longer competitors. Yeah, how lame is that?! They have preyed upon new players and have traded "crap" player for "superstars". So now their teams are stacked. So now I am forced to take action, and let it be known that my actions are swift and brutal! The penalty for "unfair" trades are: the reversal of the trade, and a docking of 10 points, and not just for one week but two! Any of you that have played fantasy football knows that 10 points can make or break a team! Man, people just do not understand integrity! Yeah, part of fantasy football is injuries! YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT! But you CANNOT take advantage of a weaker player! You cannot trade Tom Brady for Ryan Fitzpatrick!!!!!! Yeah, this isn't a big deal to many people, but it is to me! Therefore I must rule with an iron fist and punish those who prey on the weak!
So anyway.... this is great because I am winning in all my leagues, and have maintained my integrity, and I expect everyone else to do the same! Granted 250 bucks is a good chunk of change, but you still have to earn it, without preying on the weak!! GRRRRR! Now I have to take the roll of "Asshole" and reject such trades.

Well, I am off to preserve intrety in fantasy football.... night all!

Gearing up for finals......

If there is one word that will strike fear and excitement into the heart of a student it is "Finals"! Yes indeed..... and everyone knows it's true. All semester long we fight through homework and papers and reading and no sleep and stress and .... and .... and.... every other god forsaken activity that we are put through as students. Then on top of it all, just when were ready for it all to end..... we have "FINALS"! That on word invokes joy and happiness and RELIEF from all the above that was previously stated, but then we realize how much more work and stress and sleepless nights and reading and every other god forsaken activity that we have to do in order to prepare for the dreaded "FINALS", and on top of all that... there is the added stress of knowing that this one FINAL, will make or brake you..... ARRGGGHHHH!!!!!!
So yeah... that is my state of mind and being at this moment. It is still a little ways off, but this hideous creature known as "Finals" is lurking around the corner, waiting and watching. But Hey... drown it out and enjoy the events that take place before finals.... like homework, reading, sleepless nights..... oh crap.... what kind of life do we live? LOL. but just imagine that some thing as dreaded as finals still produces: pleasure, excitement, relief, and accomplishment!
Yeah that's right!!! It's all worth it in the end!!!!!

Country Music and the Black Death.... Huh? Sounds good to me!

Well hello there folks, How the hell are ya doin'? It's good to be in your local bar again...... LOL.... Yeah, so if ya can't tell I'm listening to some country music.... Hank III to be exact. If you want some music that crosses genres check him out... but I'll warn ya... It is not for the faint of heart!
Ok.... so onto this weeks activities...... Hmmmmm. Well, today we had our broadcast from Dr. Mueller! Man you want to talk about an amazing lecture! It really was awesome! The only thing that could have been better is if prospective students were there. Yeah, no one showed up other than myself and the USU Price staff that was working. I know Blanding was also hooked up to the feed but I don't know if they had anyone attend or not. Even though this event did not go as well as i planned there is some good that came from it, and I really believe that this will be a great recruitment strategy. The best thing about doing something like this, which has not been done before, you learn what should have be done differently. After talking with Brad we are going to work closely with the the CEU Professors, some of them mentioned that they would be willing to bring their entire class to a lecture like this, but it wasn't possible this time because I set the date and time before I spoke with them...... Yeah.. it was a stupid move on my part, but hind site is always 20/20.
Anyway.... tomorrow is our semester activity. So far it looks like this could be the best attended activity in Price in the last couple of years. As of noon today we had 30 students sign up for the USU Price Movie Night! Hopefully we will have a good turn out. I will be sure to let everyone know.... So the moral of this weeks blog is, work closely with professors, offer free movie tickets, and go check out HANK III!!!

Halloween has become just another day.....

Greetings all,

Well it is sad to say, but Halloween has become just another day to me..... This is majorly disappointing, because Halloween has been my favorite holiday forever. I guess a part of me has died as I am so busy to participate in the activities that correspond with this ghoulish and festive event. Yes, between work and school and student rep responsibilities I do not have the time to practice the horrific events of the weekend. So everybody.... take note... because you have witnessed the death of a part of my life that I have enjoyed since I could ever remember......
Onto other events. I had some major success and failures over the last two weeks... Last Wed. I had great success with recruitment at the Aggie Ice cream event... This weeks event did not prove to be so successful. Of course the weather resembled that of Christmas instead of Halloween, and many of the students that came for Ice Cream were "repeats" from the previous week. I would have like to photographed event but my camera went the way of the dinosaur and died, and at the moment I can not afford another one..... So, needless to say... I served a lot of ice cream, ice cream that was solid as rock, if you don't believe me check out my blisters some time.
But I'm taking a different approach this next month.... Starting with a broadcast from Dr. Mueller. If any of you have had an opportunity to take a class from him you will know how much work is involved in one of his classes, but you will also know how great of an instructor he is, so needless to say, I'm excited about his lecture for CEU's students... Hopefully some interested History majors will show up as he is lecturing about the Black Death!!!
Well I'll be sure to let you know how everything works this week... Enjoy Halloween, if you can, and try to survive the events of the semester!

FREE AGGIE ICE CREAM!!!

It is absolutely amazing what happens on a schools campus when you put up flyer for FREE AGGIE ICE CREAM!!!!!
So on Wednesday I set up shop on the CEU campus with Free Aggie Ice Cream! I could not believe the turn out! I had students backed up for what seemed like forever! But of course there was a catch! If the students wanted ice cream they had to answer one question for me. That question was "what are you studying"? This turned out to be a great recruitment activity! I served over 250 students ice cream, but out of those 25o students 15 showed genuine interest in USU Price! So the effort was totally worth it! But it came at a price, of course. The price was my hands! Yes after scooping ice cream for 3 straight hours (that is not an exaggeration) I got some major blisters!!!! But I should have expected that... after all my parents own a Baskin Robbins for the majority of my life.... working there during High school I had blisters all the time. I guess i was out of shape because I haven't scoop that much ice cream since 1999. At that time my hands were calloused so it didn't affect me..... but 10 years off my hands took a beating!!! But it was well worth it!
I will be on campus next Wednesday as well... USU Price will grow!!!! I promise you that!
Well in other news... I am doing really good in Fantasy football. My rankings are 1st, 1st and 3rd!
The problem is I'm in third in the money league!!! But as long as I make the play offs i have a chance to win!
So..... I hope to have a camera for next weeks ice cream event... then i can post some pics of the CHAOS that comes with free ice cream.......

Well, I'm out for the week!

See ya later,

I have been awake for over 48 hours straight!

Well how goes it my three followers? I have to say that the last couple of days have been hell, probally do to the fact that I have had no sleep! This all began at my usual wake up time of 3:00 am wednesday morning. I was supposed to work four hours that day, 4:00 to 8:00 a.m. That way I figured I could come home and get some reading done for my Greek History Class, the I could write my paper on thrusday and have it submitted by 8:00 pm. Well that change because I got called up Nine Mile Canyon to go work on a truck. The bad thing about this? Well, it takes a good 3 and a half hours one way to get to the location! So that blew my idea of only working 4 hours away. So working an 11 hour shift I was completly behind schedule. So I went to class wednesday night and got home from class around 8:00 pm. (total time awake = 17 hours)
So getting home I had to finish my reading so I could have some substance for my paper. Which was due at midnight on thursday. The reading took me 5 hours, the time on the clock is now 1:00 am. So im now faced with the question. Is 2 and half hours of sleep really worth it? I decided: no. Boy what a mistake! So instead of sleeping I start getting some other homework done for British Lit, and then head off to work, thinking that I can put in my 8 hours and get home to start my paper. This actually happened, but it was boarish 8 hours. I got to the shop and was informed that a truck was waiting for in Moab! Lucky me. Not that big of problem, other than the fact that it has now been 24 hours without any sleep! So I get back from moab at 10:30, and have another truck waiting for a set of drives. So I bust ass and get them done so I can get off in time. After all, I have a six page paper due that night at 11:59. The problem is that my wife, a CEU student, is on spring break! Sounds good huh!? No, since i began college I have developed strange writing rituals. One of these rituals is that I can be the only one in the house! Plus, I have a meeting with Brad at 2:00. So I try starting on my paper, which failed miserably, so I give up for the time being and head off to my meeting with Brad. After the meeting, now 3:00 pm (total time without sleep = 35 hours). I come home, knowing that I have a max of 9 hours to get my paper done. I tell my wife that she is forbidden to enter my office and make the least amount of noise possible, and I get to work! By this point in time I have drank 6 Rock Stars to keep going. Needless to say, I got the paper hacked out and submitted at 11:47 pm. Yeah i got it done! But now im faced with the fact that I have to be back to work in 4 hours. That is enough time right? Wrong, Im so wired from energy drinks and coffee that I can't sleep. so once again I start homework for other class. I found that reading was useless, even thought I was wide awake, but my brain was tired that it retained nothing. So I took a couple quizes for Young Adult Lit. Then I played on the net until it was time for work. Arriving at work (48 hours without sleep now!) I find that I have nothing to do! The truck I was supposed to work on got sent out of state. Sounds good right? Wrong! When you have gone 48 hours with sleep you need things to keep you going, otherwise you want to pass out! So Friday, today, I got off work at noon, came home and went shopping with my wife, by the way, WALMART SUCKS AT 1:00 PM AND YOURE TIRED AS HELL! anyway I survive that mini adventure, come home unload Groceries, and get ready to take my parents out to dinner for my dads birthday. 5:00 pm (57 hours now) we drive to East Carbon for dinner, eat and come home. If you ever find yourself in East Carbon stop and eat at the Pik-N-Shovel. Absolulty amazing! So that brings us to now. Me typeing my blog! 8:22. 60 hours have passed, and im fading fast. And the only thing I have to think about is I have to be back to work at 4:00 tomorrow morning. So 6 hours 6 or so hours is what i get if I go to bed now. Which im doing. Im not spell checking this, or proof reading it. hopefully it makes sense, I don't know if my math adds up, and at this point i don't care. So later. excuse my bluntness......

Fall is in the air, and so is recruitment!

Hey how goes it everyone? Not to shabby here, I'm just really enjoying the fall weather, and getting ready for fall break! Yeah, i survived my first mid-terms and I'm glad they are over. Now I have to gear up for another set assessments and papers along with some recruitment at CEU! After fall break I will be attending some of the CEU activities for non-traditional students as a USU Representative. Of course I will be promoting USU Price to the students but I will also be providing Aggie Ice Cream! Oh yeah! That alone is enough to persuade anyone to come to USU Price! After that I too will be setting up shop in the JLCS where students can come and learn more about the opportunities they have at USU Price! I will also be setting up a student activity, hopefully a movie night! That will be taking place in late October early November! Well it is time to hit the grind stone again! Later everyone.

Be cautious!

I know that this is becoming a clique, but this has been another week for the books! What a week. For myself it was a short week, but a one that wasn't very pleasurable. One of the guys at work was diagnosed with the swine flu, or H1N1 or what ever it is called, and guess what!!!! Yeah that is right! I didn't get it.... Yet. But I did get sick. With the outbreak at work I was extremely worried, but I was glad to know that I came down with strep throat instead of the swine flu. Needless to say I was extremely worried so I skip a couple of classes and meetings to avoid getting anyone sick! I am feeling much better so far, so I'm gearing up for a regular week of work and school. Waking up at 4 am on a Saturday to go to work is hardly regular, but I'm sure I will get by, especially because this is the third week in a row of doing it, so it is almost routine.
So the sickness pretty much controlled my week this week. We had a tail gate party scheduled for the game this past week, but no one showed up, and with me being sick I called it, and went home and slept. But I am gearing up for some recruiting events combine with CEU. Hopefully I will have some success. All i Have to say is "another week has passed and i Survived, and it is now time to go to bed.

A sickening week!

Ok so this week has been a beast! Have you noticed the trend! I have! Everyweek is a beast, busy, out of control, or what ever phase you would like to use! Oh well so is life. So I had a short week as far as school goes. A bunch of guys at work got sick this week and took time off work, so guess what happened to me! Come on Guess! yeah that is right! I got sick too! Unfortunately for me I could not take time of work, so I had to take time away from school. Yeah it sucks, but part of the responsibility of being a husband is putting food on the table. So work or school had to be removed from the equation. So I figured that I might as well return the favor and pass my "bug" onto someone at work, seams how they gave the bug to me. Anyway I am feeling much better, the last two days were brutal, but I survived, even though i didn't want too.
Well I the bad thing about working full time and going to school full time is the extreme lack of sleep. I think after going 36 hours without sleep somewhat contributed to my immune system weakening, and the whole idea of being up since 3:00 and having to be up at 3:00 to go back to work on a Saturday is weakening my thought process, so I'm going to bed!

Another Week!

Wow, what a week! I have to say that I survived another week fighting in the undergraduate trenches, and the only thing I have to look forward to is another one. I almost feel like I am standing in the ranks of the 300 Spartan soldiers fighting off the hordes of Persians.
Anyway, the NFL started as well! that is a good thing, because that means Fantasy Football has began as well! So far I'm doing well! I won two out of three games, the bad thing is the ONE GAME I LOST was the ONLY one that I'm MAJORLY concerned ABOUT!!!!! There is only 250 bucks for the winner in that league! The other thing is, I out score every other team in the league except the team I played!!!! ARRGGGGHHH.

Anyway, enough of that! So i participated in the college tour this week. It went very well. We had several students come and talk to us about USU Price. Of course a lot of these students were concerned about what is going to happen with the CEU and USU increased affiliation. And of course, we had no answers for them. The good thing is is that I have seen a big change around the CEU campus. It is no longer considered to be a bad thing, I'm sure there is still some people that are not comfortable, but I'm sure that will all change in time.

Ok, so I have a crap load of homework to get done so I'm signing off for now. Maybe next time I'll be a little more creative!

Getting Things Going in Price!

Hey everyone! How goes it now? I think that I am finally become accustomed to USU Price Atmosphere (it only took me, What? Three weeks?). Its kind of sad considering how small the campus is compared to others. Anyway that is besides the point. Things are finally getting going for the Price Campus. I have been in contact with Jen and Rebecca about getting a tailgate party going on for the homecoming game; this of course completely depends on being able to get a broadcast of the game to the campus. The works are in the process! I'm thinking: burgers, dogs, chips, soda, and pizza! Really any type of football food would be great!
Other than that I have another event set up..... which is actually set set up for the 6th of Nov. I have spoken with Dr. Robert Mueller about a lecture for potential students. Obviously this is a free event in order to show students the quality of instruction that exists in USU! If any of you have not taken a class from Dr. Meuller I would highly recommend it! The work load is intense, but well worth it. Due to the fact that the homework is highly demanding I would only take the class if you, first need it to fulfill a requirement or you just absolutely love history. I am really excited about this event, not only because Dr. Mueller is such great instructor, but because it will open up the campus to CEU students.
Right now there is a lot of questions about CEU-USU increased affiliation. Unfortunately we have no new information about what is going to happen, so when people ask us question, we have to reply with the programed response: I don't know. All I know is that the Board of Regence has become involved and has asked USU to become more involved in the Price area. To be honest I'm extremely excited about it. I think that it will open the doors to more and more educational opportunities to the people around this area!
Alright! I'm sure I've bored the average reader enough. Plus, the cold hard facts are that this blog has 2 followers, so both of you have my number so you can call me any time if you need any more info!

Getting Things Started!

Well,.... How goes it everyone? Not too shabby here, just extremely tired. The second week of school has passed and we are heading into a long weekend and boy of boy do I need it! So this week I went 48 hours with a combined three hours of sleep. Yeah I realized that I was behind and I had to get some home work done. So what did I do? I drank a gallon of coffee (not really) and stayed up until 2:00 am. Not that big of a deal huh? Well, it got the best of me, because I start work at 4:00 am. I did that two nights in a row, and now I'm nodding off while I'm typing!
I actually met with Brad this week and we discussed some idea for recruitment. We discussed having a brown bag lunch lecture series for our CEU students. After asking my wife about what issues she would have about attending classes at USU Price, her main concern was taking broadcast classes. To be honest I was a little concerned myself, but after attending these classes my worries have been put to rest. So I thought that if my wife and I shared the same concern their is a strong chance that other students may share the same concern. So as an effort to introduce our prospective students to the distance education life we are going to host these lectures provided by some of the professors. This semester we will only do one... just to see how it goes. If we have success we will hopefully host one lecture a month. So now my work begins to find a professor that will be willing to take time out of their schedule to this for us.
Well, I'm off. It's 6:00 pm and I'm ready to crash. What a way to spend a Friday night!!!!!

The First Week of School!

Well the first week of school has came and gone. I have to say that I am excited and worried as well! But a lot of My worries have been put to rest after the first day of my classes. Every one of my professors are absolutely amazing! Which puts me at ease, but that ease was quickly erased when I printed out my first 38 page syllabus! Goodbye ease and hello stress! But I am looking forward to this semester and all the information that I can learn.
So there has been a lot questions around the CEU campus about the CEU and USU merger. As of now, we still do not have a lot of information about the changes that are going to take place, but we took a bit step this week, as far as the USU ambassador position. Brad Watson, Dan Allred, myself, and Terry Johnson (the recruitment specialist for CEU) all sat down for a meeting to discuss my interaction with the CEU ambassadors. It went really well and I will be able to attend the leadership classes at CEU and coordinate activities with the CEU ambassadors. We also explained to him the "Comprehensive College Model" will not only be a huge benefit to USU Price but CEU as well, because he will be able pitch the idea of a four year degree availbe in Price. Like I said before, we don't know much, but I am excited about all of educational opportunities that will be available to CEU students as well as the residents of Price. The greatest thing is is that more people will have access to upper level education without having to leave the area! And that includes ME!!!!!
Well I best be off to do some homework! Yeah... I'm kind of a loser I do homework on Friday nights. Oh well huh!!!!!!

Laters,

Friday, August 21, 2009

Well what a week!!!! After spending two days in Logan for training I have spent 14 hours a day for the last 2 days at work. And another 14 hour day is about to begin in a half an hour! All I can say is "I'm Tired!!!" Oh well life will go on, and will get better as at 11:30 tonight!
I am really excited about this upcomeing semester! I had some great ideas shared with me about campus activities and recruitment ideas. Now I need the semester to start and next month look for me around campus and news posting here and on facebook!

More will come!
